About Ubitricity
Ubitricity was founded in 2008 and is based in Berlin, Germany, with a second location opened in London in 2018. The company has become the UK's largest public charging network. Ubitricity operates with a team of more than 80 colleagues from 25 nations across Berlin, London, France and the Netherlands, and is ISO certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 140001, ISO 20000-1 and ISO 27001. The company manufactures and operates electric vehicle charge points incorporated into new and existing lamp-posts and bollards, and because there is no need to dig up the pavement—the charge points' electricity supply is from the lamp-post feed—installation is faster and cheaper than with a conventional charging unit. Ubitricity's innovative approach to on-street charging has revolutionised the UK's EV infrastructure landscape. In 2021, Royal Dutch Shell announced the 100% acquisition of Ubitricity, making the company a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shell. Most significantly, in February 2026, Ubitricity announced a major acquisition of FM Conway's SureCharge EV Charging network, adding more than 2,400 charge points to the Shell Recharge network. This acquisition brought the full network total to over 14,000 charge points across 30 UK local authorities. The transition began early February 2026, with all SureCharge points being rebranded to Shell Recharge within two months. The acquisition significantly strengthened Ubitricity's presence across London and consolidated its position as the dominant player in the UK's on-street residential charging market.
