About POD Point (UK)
Pod Point was founded in 2009 by Erik Fairbairn and Peter Hiscocks having previously worked together to found and sell the supercar club Ecurie25, and is based in London. Pod Point was one of the first to market, committing to creating and installing home and commercial chargers across the UK, while also providing a public EV charging network, and in the UK it's one of the biggest public EV charging networks, with over 9,200 charging bays across hundreds of sites around the country. In 2015 Pod Point started its Open Charge network of public electric vehicle charging stations in the United Kingdom, allowing drivers to charge their vehicles by using a smartphone application in place of an RFID card. In 2018, the company installed 600 charging stations following a joint venture between Tesco and Volkswagen in the UK. On 9 November 2021, Pod Point floated on the London Stock Exchange at a £352 million valuation, and in 2022 it was announced EDF Energy had bought a 53 percent stake in the company through a joint venture with Legal and General Capital. Pod Point continues to expand its network with strategic partnerships across major retailers and automotive brands throughout the UK.
